Vision Statement

Bellevue Montessori School offers an enlightening and nurturing Montessori environment to educate and support each individual child in building a foundation for life-long learning.

Mission Statement

Bellevue Montessori School develops an academically, socially, emotionally and culturally educated community of students within the framework of acceptance, compassion and understanding, all in accordance with traditional Montessori curriculum and philosophy. We prepare students for future educational endeavors in order to become contributing members of their immediate and global communities.

45 Years of Montessori Excellence and Leadership

Margo Rossano envisioned an exceptional preschool for her youngest child. Research led her to the Montessori Method, where students experience the excitement of learning with concrete materials that guide them to understand abstract ideas.

Mrs. Rossano’s vision became a reality in 1966, when Bellevue Montessori School opened as the first Montessori school on the eastside. The school began in a small two-room schoolhouse in downtown Bellevue. As more parents learned about this amazing method of education, the need for a larger school soon became apparent.

Mrs Rossano selected a site with special attributes for a new building. A natural, treed environment with a slope would provide nature studies and muscle development. She chose an architectural team to design a building oriented to the heavily wooded hillside while preserving the natural beauty on the 1½-acre site. Walkways link the outside and inside learning environments.

The entrance opens to a perceptual motor court surrounded by five classrooms. Interior classroom design provides large community space while also allowing smaller learning areas. Each room has high ceilings and large windows, as well as a children’s bathroom. An outside door leads to nature trails.

A program for elementary education was established in 1975 and now serves kindergarten through fifth grade students in three classrooms at the Park Campus.

A premier school, Bellevue Montessori School has served as a model school for the Montessori community.

Bellevue Montessori School opens its doors as a training school for future Montessori teachers. Students from four Montessori training programs in the greater Seattle area desire to intern here.  Working for a year under the guidance of experienced teachers furthers the training of these interns and provides them with a strong foundation from which to launch their new careers.

Our Campuses and Programs

The Early Childhood program continues to thrive at our Main Campus. A program for Elementary Education began in 1975 and now serves kindergarten through fifth grade students at the Park Campus. The Montessori Elementary curriculum is the ideal continuation from the Montessori pre-elementary program. The small elementary community allows for a depth of learning taught by highly qualified educators.

School Accreditation

Bellevue Montessori School is accredited by the American Montessori Association (AMS).

Memberships

Bellevue Montessori School has memberships in the American Montessori Society (AMS) and the Pacific Northwest Montessori Association (PMNA).

Teaching Staff Credentials

Our head teaching staff is diverse and well-educated. All have Montessori credentials from a MACTE-accredited teacher training program (Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education) and college degrees.

"We have been at Bellevue Montessori for 4 years. We have enjoyed our daily interactions with the office team as well as the teachers and assistants along the way. Through the years, we were always greeted and treated with respect and graciousness and were welcomed into the classroom any time. We knew that any time we had a question or concern we could talk about it and it would be answered or addressed. While Montessori schools follow the same teachings, we believe that there is a special group of people — starting with the leadership — at Bellevue Montessori. It takes a village and most, if not all of your team (at one time or another), shared in educating our two children."
